BIO: I have been an athlete all of my life. I was also a professional model in my late teens and early 20s. I truly enjoyed every moment that both opportunities presented as a means of expressing myself as strong, unique woman.
Throughout my 30s and early 40s, although I focused primarily on progressing in my career as a First Responder, I also remained passionate about fitness and wellness and became certified to train and teach emergency personnel, especially women, to be the healthiest they can be. I also began my adventure as a Figure and then a Bikini competitor and enjoyed modest success in both areas at the amateur level.
Despite my knowledge, skills, and expertise in the area of Wellness, I didn’t always practice what I preached. Eventually, the inherent stress and demands associated with my primary occupation caught up with me.
At the age of 45, I was diagnosed with Severe Aortic Regurgitation and had open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve with a mechanical one. Of course, at that time, I was told by many fitness and medical professionals that I would never compete again.
The dietary, medication, and workout restrictions were considered too insurmountable. Yet, remembering the words of Maya Angelou, "You are confined by the walls you build yourself", I made a defining decision and refused to surrender.
Not only did I decide that I would compete again but I also set the goal of becoming a Professional Bikini Athlete. It took three years of unwavering discipline and unshakable faith.
On August 23rd at the Southern Cross Naturals, I earned my pro cards in both the Master Bikini and the Open Bikini Tall Division. I plan to continue to compete for years to come in order to inspire women everywhere to hold onto their dreams and keep the faith! (Jer 29:11).
